    The charming and tiny village of Benferri with a population of around 1,200 lies directly north of the historic city of Orihuela which is about 7 km away. Benferri is the last village in the Valencian community when travelling south towards Murcia. The village developed around a small tower (the Tower of Rocamora) during the 15th and 16th centuries and became home to just 29 families thanks to the patronage of the Rocamora family. Modern Benferri life centres around the delightful village square with its town hall (Ayuntamiento) and its traditional fountain. There is ample seating where bypassers can relax amongst the pretty trees and plants. The villagers are charming and friendly and offer visitors a warm welcome. They will be happy to see you some time soon.

    Benferri is a small village but boasts 2 banks, a chemist, butcher shop, fresh fish shop and various bars some having restaurants attached. The local Town Hall celebrates all the festivals where everyone is made welcome with entertainment provided free. It has its own primary school, doctor’s surgery and children’s play area. The next village La Murada, which is 2 miles away, has a petrol station, supermarket with an excellent butchery department and a very good and inexpensive market on Sunday mornings. La Murada also has various bars and restaurants, hairdressers, dentist and tobacconist
