With Prehistoric ancestry, the town has many attractions including the Cave of Monigotes with its underground lake and Neolithic cave paintings. Near to Calasparra, the Cueva del Puerto is a favourite location for Potholers and the surrounding countryside consists of rivers and mountains and the Canyon of the Almadenes with its red brimstone. Although not quite ´white water´, the rivers in Calasparra are wide and long enough for organised rafting trips and are home to a variety of wild life including many species of fish and birds. The area is also of Archaeological interest in Calasparra and there are several museums and sites of Prehistoric interest The new golf course just outside the town has been given approval and work on the access road has started. Calasparra is also typically famous for it's Calasparra rice being only one of two areas in Spain with a denomination award. It is even recommended by Delia Smith as the best rice to use for paellas. Calasparra also has a microclimate, being warmer in Calasparra than in the surrounding villages and towns due to the area being situated in a valley and protected with the surrounding mountains. Calasparra is a place of great scenic beauty and often the residents of Calasparra can be seen just walking and pottering the the local areas of Calasparra and thesurrounds.
